Hey everyone! Sorry for the hiatus, been figuring out the next step for the final zones that Pouchie will be exploring next. In the meantime, I've gone and done a couple of quick updates to the game to help polish a few things so that the game feels a bit more complete!

What's new for Alpha 0.5.1:

  • NEW MUSIC: After a long time of trying to find music fitting the black and white cartoon era that Pouchie comes from, I've decided to make my own arrangement of Scott Joplin's The Entertainer. This song I find works well as it's fitting for the genre of the game. I never intended on having the music in the first few levels of the game as the final score, and it was only supposed to be placeholder music. As an additional issue, I found out that original song "8 bit surf" actually is copyrighted, something which I was not aware, as the website I got it from actually listed it as royalty-free. The good news is, all of Scott Joplin's songs are public domain, so long as you either use old recordings, or make your own covers of the music. Since I did the latter, that should be the end of our copyright problems!
  • CHANGES TO THE DIFFICULTY SLIDERS: For those of you unaware, Pouchie The Cat actually has two difficulty sliders: No-Hit and One-Life. No-Hit is a difficulty slider which, when turned on, will remove Pouchie's health bar. Pouchie will lose a life the second he gets hit. So I made the change to the game that in this gamemode, Pouchie can no longer find Cat Food to restore his health. Instead, all Cat Food in the game will be replaced by Cones of Shame, which act as a one-use shield. Giving only the smallest of defenses, if you live long enough to get one. One-Life is pretty self-explanatory: Pouchie has one life, and there are no coins, nor lucky fish available to give him more. Both of these gameplays make the game much harder, but both combined can be quite the challenge. I've personally never tried beating the game with both gamemodes active, but if you like the challenge, have at it!
  • Bugfixes:
    • Sound effects for coins, power-ups and crates being broken have now been put on a delay timer, so that you don't run into the issue of getting multiples of the same sound effect playing at the exact same time and blasting your eardrums.
